Miami, FL (My Sportsbook) - A federal jury in the case against Indy car driver and "Dancing With The Stars" winner Helio Castroneves has reached a partial verdict.
The 12-member jury said Thursday it reached a unanimous decision on two counts, but is deadlocked on five other charges against the 33-year-old Brazilian driver. The panel also reached a verdict on one charge against Castroneves' sister/business manager, Katiucia, but is deadlocked on six other counts.
A verdict on all four charges against Castroneves' sports attorney, Alan Miller, has been reach.
Federal Judge Donald Graham said he will not read any of the verdicts until the jury has reached a decision on all counts against Castroneves, his sister and attorney. The verdicts remained sealed. Graham also ordered the panel to continue deliberating on the other counts. Jury deliberations began last Friday.
Castroneves' attorneys filed a motion for a mistrial Tuesday, but Graham denied the request.
Castroneves is facing one count of conspiracy and six counts of tax evasion from 1999 to 2004. He is accused of failing to report over $5 million in income to the Internal Revenue Service. Katiucia Castroneves, 35, is also facing the same charges. Miller, 71, is accused of tax evasion and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
If convicted, Castroneves could face a maximum of 35 years in prison for all charges.
Castroneves won the Indianapolis 500 in 2001 and '02, and finished second to Scott Dixon in this year's IndyCar Series points championship. Castroneves elevated his celebrity status in 2007 when he and partner Julianne Hough won "Dancing With The Stars," the hit reality competition show on ABC.
Will Power is substituting for Castroneves at Team Penske pending the outcome of his case. Power finished sixth last week at St. Petersburg, FL in his debut with the team.
