Sixers deny Cavs a chance to tie Celtics' home record

Cleveland, OH (My Sportsbook) - Andre Miller tied a season-high with 30 points while also dishing out eight assists, as the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Cavaliers' reserves, 111-110, denying Cleveland a chance to match the best regular season home record in NBA history.

Even with MVP candidate LeBron James and fellow Cleveland regulars Mo Williams, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Joe Smith resting for the playoff run, the Sixers (41-41) struggled to snap a season-high six-game losing streak.

But coupled with Chicago's loss to Toronto Wednesday, Philly took the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference standings and will play third-seeded Orlando in the first round of the playoffs.

"We didn't care who [Cleveland] threw on the floor, we knew they were going to come out and play hard anyway," Miller said. "They deserve our respect. It's a game that we definitely wanted to win and it could have easily went the other way."

Cleveland (66-16), meanwhile, lost just their second bout at Quicken Loans Arena this season, falling short of tying the 1985-86 Celtics' 40-1 home mark. The Lakers handed the East's top seed their only other home defeat back on February 8.

"It would have been nice [to tie the record], but we have other things to concentrate on and worry about, as evident by getting a lot of guys a lot of rest," the Cavs' Wally Szczerbiak said. "We definitely were trying to win this game. We just have to put this one behind us, bounce back and get ready for the real thing."

Daniel Gibson led the short-handed attack with 28 points, including the game- tying three-pointer just prior to the regulation buzzer. The Cavs, the owners of the best record in the league, will face the Detroit Pistons in the opening round of the postseason.

The Sixers made just three field goals in overtime, but like most of the game, the visitors managed to get to the foul line with regularity in the extra session. Two free throws from Andre Iguodala resulted in a 109-106 lead for Philly with 39 seconds remaining.

Tarence Kinsey's field goal made it a one-point game, but Miller sank a pair from the stripe and the Sixers were able to hang on for the win.

Cleveland led throughout most of the game, including a 27-21 cushion after the first quarter, a 49-37 lead at the break and 70-65 with 12 minutes to play.

Iguodala buried a three-pointer near the five-minute mark of the fourth, tying things at 81-all.

Lou Williams broke a 90-all tie on a pair of free throws with a minute to go, and Miller extended the margin to 98-95 on two makes at the stripe with under five seconds left.

After a timeout, though, Gibson drained a straightaway three just before the buzzer, leading to another five minutes of action.

Game Notes

Sixers canter Samuel Dalembert strained his right shoulder in the first half and did not return...Cleveland won the season series, 3-1...The Sixers finished 17-24 on the road this season...The Sixers outscored the Cavs at the free throw line, 32-8...Iguodala and Thaddeus Young finished with 24 and 20 points, respectively, for Philly...Szczerbiak and Sasha Pavlovic ended with 21 and 20 points, respectively, for the Cavs.
