Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - Grant Hill tied a season high with 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the
Phoenix Suns past the
Golden State Warriors, 117-113, in the season-finale for both clubs at US Airways Center.
Leandro Barbosa ended with 18 points and Shaquille O'Neal 15 for the Suns (46-36), who closed the season with three straight wins. Matt Barnes totaled 12 points, while Jason Richardson and Steve Nash scored 10 each. Nash also doled out 10 assists in the win.
Anthony Morrow scored 33 points and corralled a season-high 12 boards for the Warriors (29-53), who dropped four of five to close out the season. C.J. Watson totaled 20 points and dished out a career-high 12 helpers in defeat. Kelenna Azubuike tallied 18 points and Anthony Randolph 14 in the setback.
Trailing by two early in the fourth, Nash hit a long-range jumper to spark a 13-2 Suns run. O'Neal had a three-point play on the surge, and Barbosa's layup closed it out with a bit over four minutes left to make it 108-99.
Morrow's layup and three free throws from Watson made it 112-108 with about a minute left, but Hill hit a free throw with 44.3 ticks left to give the Suns a five-point lead the club held on to.
The Warriors were up 36-24 after the first quarter, but the Suns battled back to tie it up at 56 at the break.
The lead seesawed in the third period before Morrow hit a jumper and Watson added a layup to make it a six-point game. Robin Lopez hit a pair of free throws to make it 90-86 heading to the final 12 minutes.
Game Notes
The Suns are out of the playoff hunt for the first time in five years and are just the third team in NBA history to win at least 45 games and not earn a trip to the postseason. The Warriors were the last team to do it when they won 48 last season. The 1971-72 Phoenix team also failed to earn a playoff berth with a 49-33 record...The Suns have taken three of four games from Golden State this season...Phoenix shot 42.6 percent from the field, while Golden State hit at a 46.2 percent clip.
