Minneapolis, MN (My Sportsbook) - Scott Rolen, Aaron Hill, Vernon Wells, and Michael Barrett each homered, as the
Toronto Blue Jays routed the
Minnesota Twins, 12-2, in the third game of a four-game series at the Metrodome.
Hill went 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBI for Toronto, which has won two of three overall. Rolen, Marco Scutaro, and Travis Snider knocked in two RBI apiece.
Scott Richmond (1-0) gave up two runs -- one earned -- on four hits for the Blue Jays. The 29-year-old Richmond also fanned three batters and walked three in 6 1/3 innings of work. This was the first time Richmond has faced the Twins in his career.
"Richmond did a great job out there tonight, a four-hitter," Toronto manager Cito Gaston said. "Someone asked me before the game what we except out of him. That's what we expect."
Scott Baker (0-1), who signed a four-year, $15.25-million contract this offseason, got rocked to take the loss. Baker gave up six runs on five hits in four innings of work.
"Just basically wasn't finishing my pitches. It's not something I haven't dealt with before," Baker said.
Baker was originally slated to be the Twins' Opening Day starter, but he experienced soreness in his shoulder before the season and started the year on the disabled list.
Jason Kubel had the lone RBI of the game for the Twins, who won 3-2 in 11 innings on Tuesday. Alexi Casilla and Justin Morneau each scored for the Twins.
The Twins drew first blood with a pair of runs in the first inning. Following a Denard Span pop out on a bunt attempt, Casilla singled to right and Morneau doubled to right. Kubel's groundout to first scored Casilla and moved Morneau to third. Richmond's wild pitch to Michael Cuddyer brought home Morneau, but Cuddyer flied out to center to end the frame.
The Blue Jays responded in the second with a two-run homer from Rolen to deadlock the tilt at two. Adam Lind, who walked with one out, was brought home when Rolen sent a 0-2 fastball from Baker over the left-field wall. Lyle Overbay grounded out and Barrett went down swinging to end the set.
Toronto used a pair of home runs in the third to take a 5-2 lead. Baker walked Scutaro after he got Snider swinging. Hill belted a 0-2 changeup over the left-field fence. Following an Alex Rios groundout, Wells stroked a 0-1 slider over the left-field wall. A fly out by Lind ended the inning.
Barrett's solo home run to right-center field in the fourth put the Blue Jays ahead 6-2.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth, Scutaro singled to center to score Overbay and Barrett. Snider moved to third on the throw home and scored on Hill's single to right. Rios grounded out to end frame, but not before Toronto extended its margin to 9-2.
Overbay's single off R.A. Dickey with two outs in the seventh knocked in Wells. Barrett went down swinging to end the inning.
The Blue Jays added two more runs in the ninth. Snider hit a ground-rule double down the left-field line with two outs to score Lind and Jose Bautista.
