Boston, MA (My Sportsbook) - Eddie House made five three-pointers in the fourth quarter to lead a make-shift Celtics squad to a 115-107 victory over Washington in the season finale for both clubs.
House finished with 20 points while Glen Davis added 21 for Boston (62-20), which played without its vaunted "Big Three." Kevin Garnett sat out once again due to a knee injury, while Paul Pierce and Ray Allen rested for the Celtics' playoff run.
The defending NBA champions, the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, will play the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the postseason.
Caron Butler's 39 points and seven rebounds paced the lowly Wizards (19-63), who finished with the worst record in the Eastern Conference.
House opened his efficient fourth quarter with a three to pull the Celtics within 85-82. The hosts continued to trail until the streaky shooter nailed trifectas on back-to-back possessions for a 101-99 edge with a little under 4 1/2 minutes to play.
It was a three-point Boston lead coming down the stretch before Tony Allen made a layup and Davis went 1-for-2 from the foul line. "Big Baby" missed the second attempt, but Bill Walker's tip-in yielded a 112-104 advantage with 1:09 left that proved too much for the hopeless Wizards to overcome.
Boston held a slim 25-24 lead after the first quarter and were ahead, 57-52, at the break.
Washington's 10-0 run late in the third quarter, capped by a Nick Young bucket, gave the visitors a 73-70 lead that expanded to 83-79 by the end of the frame.
