(My Sportsbook) - Right-hander Carl Pavano gives it another try with Cleveland tonight after a miserable first start, when the Indians visit Kauffman Stadium for the second test of a three-game series with the
Kansas City Royals.
A well-traveled 33-year-old who signed a one-year deal with the Tribe after a largely unsuccessful stint with the New York Yankees, Pavano was ripped for six hits and nine runs in a single inning of the Indians' 12-8 loss at Texas on April 9.
He spent four years with the Yankees and battled multiple maladies while making just 26 appearances and winning nine games. Previously, he'd been a two-time double-digit winner - including 18 in 2004 - with the Florida Marlins.
Pavano last faced Kansas City in 2005, dropping one decision after giving up nine hits and five runs in 5 1/3 innings.
For the Royals, right-hander Kyle Davies comes off a tough-luck no-decision in his initial appearance of 2009.
A 26-year-old who finished with four wins in his last five starts in 2008, Davies pitched seven scoreless innings against the Chicago White Sox on April 9, allowing three hits and striking out eight before leaving with game in a scoreless tie.
A product of the Atlanta Braves' farm system before reaching the majors in 2005, Davies came to the Royals in 2007 and was 9-7 in 21 overall starts with a 4.06 ERA in 113 innings.
He defeated Cleveland in one start last season after giving up five hits and a run in five inning.
On Monday, Zack Greinke threw five strong innings to help the Royals take a 4-2 win. Mike Jacobs hit a solo home run while Mark Teahen, Billy Butler and Alberto Callaspo each drove in a run.
Greinke (2-0) gave up six hits and two walks with nine strikeouts for the Royals, who have won two in a row.
Fausto Carmona (0-2) was saddled with the loss as he gave up four runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts in five innings of work for the Indians, who failed to follow up on their only win of the season, an 8-4 victory over Toronto on Sunday.
Shin-Soo Choo drove in a run while Victor Martinez went 3-for-5 in the loss.
Cleveland went 10-8 versus Kansas City last year, taking six of the nine games played at Kauffman Stadium.
