Auburn Hills, MI (My Sportsbook) - Ben Gordon hit the go-ahead bucket with 14.6 seconds left in regulation and Derrick Rose scored 11 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter to help the Bulls improve their Eastern Conference playoff standing with a 91-88 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

Gordon finished with 19 points and Rose doled out eight assists, helping Chicago move into the sixth spot in the East, a half-game ahead of idle Philadelphia.

Joakim Noah recorded 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Tyrus Thomas added 13 and eight in the Bulls' fifth straight win.

Richard Hamilton's 25 points paced the Pistons, who as the No. 8 seed will face the top-ranked Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs. Tayshaun Prince netted 19 points, while Rodney Stuckey chipped in 16 with nine helpers and seven rebounds.

"It's tough, because we wanted to get a win," Hamilton said. "We're in the playoffs and we're probably going to play Cleveland. We just got to be ready to play."

Detroit held a three-point lead, 88-85, after Stuckey went 1-for-2 at the foul line with 2:43 left in the game. On the next Bulls' possession, Brad Miller was whistled for travelling and was ejected for arguing the call.

Hamilton, though, missed the technical free throw and turned the ball over to keep it a three-point affair. Both teams came up empty their next time with the ball, and Rose tied things by going up and under Rasheed Wallace for a hoop and a foul, tying things on a free throw with 42.9 seconds remaining.

Rose again came up big, blocking Stuckey's 14-foot jumper on the right wing. Chicago gave the reins to Gordon, who took Prince off the dribble and got a running layup to fall with 14.6 ticks left despite taking a shot to the body from Antonio McDyess. No foul was called on the drive.

"I just kind of backed it up to see what the defense was going to do. I didn't want to settle for a jump shot. I wanted to get something at the rim, and I was able to get a good look," Gordon said.

After a timeout, the Pistons managed to swing the ball to an open Wallace, but the veteran airballed a three from the left wing. McDyess came up with the rebound with a little over seven seconds left, but rushed an errant jumper from the baseline.

Rose secured the carom and went to the free throw line with 2.8 seconds left, making the first and missing the second as Stuckey's heave from beyond halfcourt was well off the mark.

While the first quarter ended in a deadlock, 31-31, the Pistons embarked on a 10-2 run to end the half holding a 56-48 advantage.

The Bulls closed to one, 67-66, late in the third, but Wallace nailed a three and the hosts eventually took a 75-69 edge to the final 12 minutes.

Back-to-back buckets by Rose around the five-minute mark pulled Chicago within 85-83.

Game Notes
