(My Sportsbook) - The
Toronto Blue Jays hope to continue their recent mastery of the
Minnesota Twins this evening when the two begin a four-game set at the Metrodome.
Toronto won all six of its games with the Twins last season and has won nine in a row against them, including victories in five of its last seven visits to Minneapolis.
Minnesota has not beaten the Blue Jays since an 8-5 home victory on June 28, 2007.
The Blue Jays, though, enter tonight's opener on the heels of becoming the first team to lose to Cleveland, as Toronto had its three-game winning streak halted with an 8-4 setback at Progressive Field.
Vernon Wells went 2-for-4 with his first homer of the year for Toronto, which was trying to win six of its first seven games for the first time since 1994. Alex Rios hit an RBI triple in the loss.
David Purcey (0-1) threw 4 2/3 innings but did not have his control, as he racked up 113 pitches. The lefty allowed five runs -- four earned -- on four hits and six walks while also recording 10 strikeouts.
Hoping to get the Blue Jays back in the win column this evening will be righty Jesse Litsch, who had a rough start to the year on Wednesday against Detroit. Litsch was tagged with the loss in that one, as he allowed five runs and seven hits in six innings.
However, Litsch is a perfect 3-0 lifetime against the Twins with a 2.08 ERA in four starts.
Minnesota will counter with 24-year-old righty Kevin Slowey, who labored to get the win in his season debut on Wednesday against Seattle. Slowey surrendered five runs and nine hits in six innings of his team's 6-5 win. He also struck out five batters without issuing a walk.
The Twins dropped the final two games of their three-game series with the Chicago White Sox, including a 6-1 setback in Sunday's rubber match at U.S. Cellular Field. Justin Morneau had two of Minnesota's five hits, while Delmon Young accounted for the Twins' lone run with a solo home run in the second.
Nick Blackburn (0-1) was touched for four runs -- three earned -- on six hits and a walk over six-plus innings for Minnesota, which opened its season by splitting four games with Seattle.
