(My Sportsbook) - Brett Myers hopes to bounce back from a poor Opening Day effort when the
Philadelphia Phillies continue their three-game series with the
Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
Myers shouldn't have a problem getting back on track, though, as he is a perfect 6-0 lifetime against the Rockies with a 3.19 earned run average in seven games (six starts). He is also 4-0 with a 3.67 ERA in his five starts in Denver.
The 28-year-old right-hander struggled early against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, surrendering all four runs he allowed in the first two innings, while serving up three home runs.
Philadelphia could certainly use a big start from Myers tonight after Colorado battered the Phillies and postseason hero Cole Hamels in the opener of this set on Friday, as Garrett Atkins' two-run homer highlighted a five-run third inning in the Rockies' 10-3 win.
Ryan Spilborghs was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored for Colorado, which took two of three in Arizona to begin the 2009 campaign. The Rockies haven't opened a season 4-1 since 1998.
Jason Marquis (1-0), who was picked up from the Cubs in the offseason, continued his success at Coors Field, allowing two runs and five hits with two walks and as many strikeouts over seven solid innings. The veteran right- hander is now 4-0 in five starts in the Mile High City. Marquis also helped his cause at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double and a run batted in.
Coming off a stellar postseason a year ago in which he emerged as an elite pitcher, punctuated by capturing MVP honors in both the NLCS and World Series, Hamels struggled in his season debut for Philadelphia.
Hamels (0-1), whose start to the season was delayed by an elbow issue this spring, was hit hard by Colorado, yielding seven runs on 11 hits with a walk and one strikeout in 3 2/3 innings to take the loss.
Jayson Werth went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a homer and three runs scored for the Phillies, who are off to a 1-3 start. Pedro Feliz knocked in the other two runs.
Colorado will hand the ball tonight to lefty Jorge De La Rosa, who was 10-8 last season with a 4.92 ERA. He is 0-1 in his young career against the Phils with an 8.38 ERA in four games (two starts).
Philadelphia won all five of its matchups with the Rockies last season and has won six of seven and eight of its last 11 against Colorado in the regular season.
