Kansas City, MO (My Sportsbook) - New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is expected to participate in baseball activities in Tampa, Florida on Monday for the first time since undergoing hip surgery on March 9th. The Yankees have split the first four games of the season without the 12-time All-Star, but his replacement at third, Cody Ransom, has just one hit in 14 at-bats thus far. The three-time MVP had less invasive surgery that addressed cartilage from a paralabral cyst dating back to last season. After his rehab is completed, he will return to play and then have a full repair after the season. The initial surgery fixed the labrum, while the second will repair the bone deformity. Rodriguez has been in Colorado undergoing an accelerated rehab program that Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and manager Joe Girardi expect will put the mercurial star back in pinstripes by mid-May. Rodriguez, who recently admitted to using steroids while a member of the Texas Rangers from 2001-03, was also forced to sit out the World Baseball Classic due to the injury. For his career, "A-Rod" is a .306 hitter with 553 home runs and 1,606 runs batted in. Over parts of 15 seasons with New York, Seattle and Texas, the 33- year-old Rodriguez has recorded 2,404 hits in 2,042 games.
