Gelsenkirchen, Germany (My Sportsbook) - Bundesliga sides Schalke and Borussia Dortmund each won the first-leg match in the third round of the Intertoto Cup, while Hamburg only managed a draw. Newcomers Mladen Krstajic and Ailton each scored during a 5-0 romp for Schalke over Macedonian side Vardar Skopje at the AufSchalke Arena. Both players came over from Bundesliga champions Werder Bremen this summer. The large margin of victory likely puts Schalke into the semifinals of the competition. Dortmund didn't quite have it as easy as Schalke as they barely pulled out a 1-0 decision over Belgian side Racing Genk. David Odonkor scored the match's only goal in the 41st minute, but it was enough to propel Dortmund -- which finished a disappointing fifth in the table last season -- to the victory. The third German club in action on Saturday did not fare quite as well as the previous two. Hamburg SV finished in a 2-2 draw with Swiss squad Thun. Hamburg will now have its fate rest on the return leg when they host the Swiss outfit. In other Intertoto Cup action: Portuguese club Uniao Leiria defeated Russian side Shinnik Yaroslavl by a score of 4-1; Czech side Liberec edged Dutch outfit Roda Kerkrade, 1-0; Croatia's Slaven Belupo and Trnava ended in a scoreless draw; France's Lille outlasted Dinamo Minsk by a score of 2-1; and Spain's Atletico Madrid bested the Czech Rebulic's Zlin, 4-2.
