Arlington, TX (My Sportsbook) - Ian Kinsler homered and drove in three runs, as the Texas Rangers completed a three-game sweep of the Cleveland Indians with a 12-8 victory.

Texas is 3-0 for the first time since 1996, when the Rangers won seven straight games to open up the season. Kinsler went 3-for-5 and scored twice, as the Rangers swept the Indians for the first time since 2004. Brandon McCarthy (1-0), who has struggled since being traded for White Sox pitcher John Danks, pitched five innings, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out seven.

Andruw Jones, making his first appearance for the Rangers, went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored out of the fourth spot in the lineup, and Marlon Byrd hit a three-run homer and had five RBI in the win. Omar Vizquel added a pair of hits, an RBI and a run scored for Texas.

"I don't think we're going to go 162-0, but I'll take 100-62 any day," Byrd said. "But we're playing well. We just have to keep it rolling. When you have momentum like this, you want to keep going as long as possible."

Grady Sizemore headlined the Indians offense with two homers and four RBI, but Cleveland fell to 0-3 for the first time since 1999, a season that ended with 99 wins and a trip to the American League Championship Series. Kelly Shoppach, Travis Hafner and Victor Martinez also homered, while Asdrubal Cabrera went 2- for-2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored.

"The starting pitching wasn't there for us this series," Indians manager Eric Wedge said. "It put us in a hole in all three games. Each time you go out there, you got to expect whoever is starting to give us a good effort and give us a chance to win the ballgame. That doesn't change, (even though) we've gotten off to a tough start in these first three games."

Carl Pavano (0-1), making his first start for the Indians after signing as a free agent, was pummeled for nine runs on six hits and three walks in only one-plus innings.

Pavano got off to a rough start in the first. Kinsler lined the first pitch to left for a single, and Michael Young followed with a double down the right field line to put runners on second and third with nobody out.

Josh Hamilton followed with a sacrifice fly to right, and Jones made it 2-0 early with a single to center in his first at-bat as a Ranger, scoring Young. Nelson Cruz worked a walk, and Byrd drilled a three-run homer to center to make it 5-0.

Shoppach got the Indians to within four in the second on a solo homer to center.

But Texas quickly extended its lead, as Vizquel led off the second with a walk and scored as Kinsler blasted a two-run homer to left to make it 7-1.

After Young singled and Hamilton drew a walk, all with no outs, Pavano was lifted in favor of Zach Jackson.

Jackson allowed a single to Jones and a sacrifice fly to Cruz to make it 8-1, and Byrd's RBI groundout gave the Rangers an eight-run advantage after the top of the second.

Cleveland got a couple runs back in the third on Sizemore's first homer of the year, a two-run shot to right field.

Vizquel and Kinsler each added an RBI single in the fifth to make it an 11-3 game, but Sizemore made it a six-run game again with his second homer of the contest, a two-run shot to left-center field in the sixth.

Martinez hit his first homer of the season in the seventh to make it 11-6, and Cabrera's RBI double in the eighth scored Shoppach, who had doubled.

Jones doubled for his third hit of the game to lead off the ninth and scored on Byrd's double two batters later, making it 12-7 in favor of Texas.

Eddie Guardado came on for the Rangers in the ninth, but Hafner greeted him with a lead-off homer to make it a four-run game. Jhonny Peralta followed with a single, but Ben Francisco, who went 0-for-4 in the game, erased any chance of a comeback by hitting into a double play.

A Trevor Crowe flyout ended the game.

Game Notes

McCarthy improved to 4-1 in six lifetime starts against the Indians...Texas won a season-opening series for the first time since 1999, which was also the last time the Rangers made the playoffs...Jackson allowed two runs on four hits, with six strikeouts, in four innings pitched...Scott Feldman allowed four runs in 2 1/3 innings pitched for the Rangers...Crowe, making his major league debut, went 0-for-5 in the game...The Indians are now the only team in the American League without a victory.
