Anaheim, CA (My Sportsbook) - The Oakland Athletics claimed right-handed pitcher Dan Giese off waivers from the New York Yankees on Wednesday and optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento.

Giese was 0-1 with a pair of saves and a 6.48 earned run average in nine relief appearances with the Yankees this spring before being designated for assignment on Saturday.

For his career, the 31-year-old Giese is 1-5 with a 3.76 ERA in 28 appearances -- including three starts -- over parts of two seasons with the Yanks and San Francisco.

Oakland designated right-handed pitcher Chris Schroder for assignment to make room for Giese on the 40-man roster.
