(My Sportsbook) - The Detroit Pistons are clinging to the eighth and final playoff berth in the East and will pay a visit to the New York Knicks tonight at historic Madison Square Garden. Detroit is 2 1/2 games ahead of the Charlotte Bobcats for the final spot and also sits just a half game behind the seventh-seeded Chicago Bulls. The Pistons put the brakes on a three-game slide with a 104-97 victory versus the Bobcats on Sunday, as Will Bynum scored a career-high 32 points off the bench to lead the charge. Bynum netted 26 points in the fourth frame, setting a franchise record, and also handed out seven assists. Tayshaun Prince and Richard Hamilton scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the Pistons, who got 12 points, six boards and six assists from Rasheed Wallace. Detroit played the entire fourth period without Hamilton, who was ejected from the game after receiving his second technical foul. The Pistons will try to put the brakes on a three-game road losing streak and are 17-21 away from The Palace of Auburn Hills this season. New York is out of playoff contention and has dropped five of its last six games, including a 110-103 setback Tuesday at Chicago. Wilson Chandler scored a game-best 26 points and Al Harrington added 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Knicks, who got 17 points and 13 boards out of David Lee. The Knicks are 19-20 at MSG this season and lead the 2008-09 season series with Detroit by a 2-1 count. The Pistons are 12-6 over the previous 18 matchups with New York, which has won 22 of the last 30 contests between the clubs in the Big Apple.
