Padres rally to down Dodgers

San Diego, CA (My Sportsbook) - Chase Headley hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the sixth inning, as the San Diego Padres picked up their first win of the season with a 4-2 decision over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Chris Young (1-0) allowed two runs on five hits and a pair of walks in a six- inning start for the Padres. He also struck out five in the win for San Diego, which dropped its season opener against the Dodgers, 4-1, on Monday.

"They're a good team, and every game in the NL West is important," Headley said. "Even these ones early on; you don't want to dig yourselves a hole. You want to play your best against those guys."

Kevin Kouzmanoff went 2-for-4 with a triple for the Padres, while Luis Rodriguez had a key sacrifice fly.

Randy Wolf (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in a 5 1/3-inning start. He also walked three and struck out three for the Dodgers in a matchup against his former club. Wolf made 21 starts for San Diego in 2008 before being traded to Houston mid-season and, eventually, signing with the Dodgers.

Russell Martin hit a run-scoring double for LA, while Matt Kemp finished 2- for-4.

"I think he hides his ball well," Martin said of Young. "He stays aggressive, throws a lot of strikes. Kind of hard to read that breaking ball that he has. He's a little bit different than most pitchers, he throws the ball up in the zone a lot."

The Padres trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth, which Adrian Gonzalez and Kouzmanoff began with back-to-back singles. Headley then ripped a double down the third-base line to plate both runners and give San Diego the one-run lead.

Scott Hairston then popped out, advancing Headley to third. Wolf was then lifted for Guillermo Mota, who walked Nick Hundley before Rodriguez lifted a fly ball to right. It was deep enough to score Headley, making it a 4-2 game.

The Padres' bullpen shut down LA for the remainder of the contest. Edwin Moreno tossed a scoreless seventh, working around two walks, while Duaner Sanchez set down the side in order in the eighth. Heath Bell got around a one- out walk to Casey Blake, notching three strikeouts, to get his first save of the season.

San Diego got the first run, in the second inning. Kouzmanoff began the frame with a triple, and two batters later Hairston doubled to bring the run home.

Los Angeles took the lead with two runs in the fourth. Manny Ramirez opened the inning with a double -- his only hit in four at-bats Tuesday -- and two batters later, Martin doubled him home. James Loney then walked, and a Kemp single loaded the bases. Blake lifted a sac fly to center to make it 2-1, but Wolf grounded out to end the rally.

Game Notes

The Dodgers left eight runners on base, while the Padres stranded five...The teams continue their four-game series Wednesday...Wolf went 6-10 with a 4.74 ERA for the Padres last season...Bell's save was the third of his career...Young went 1-for-2 at the plate, notching his 17th career hit.
