New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Henrik Lundqvist made 24 saves to give New York a big two points as the Rangers handled the
Montreal Canadiens, 3-1, at Madison Square Garden.
Chris Drury scored twice while Nik Antropov also lit the lamp for the Rangers, who had dropped four of five coming into the game. Ryan Callahan had two assists in the win.
"It's a team game and everyone is pulling together to get wins and get points," said Drury. "This time of year it's not an individual that's gonna do it, it's gonna be a team. It was a good team effort tonight."
With the win New York has 91 points on the season and, coupled with Florida's 2-1 loss to Philly, gives the team a two-point lead on Florida for the eighth playoff seed in the Eastern Conference with two games to play.
Mathieu Dandenault scored the lone goal while Carey Price was charged with three goals on 44 shots for the Canadiens, who have dropped their past two games.
"The good news is is that we have a couple of games left," said Price. "We have a couple more games to lock up a playoff spot."
Montreal has 92 points on the season and sits in the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference with two games left.
New York drew first blood in the game at the 13:14 mark of the first. With a Ranger and Canadien battling near the bottom of the left circle, the puck squirted loose and Drury snapped a quick shot past a surprised Price for a 1-0 lead.
However, the Canadiens answered with 3:04 left in the opening period as Dandenault backhanded a loose puck in the slot past Lundqvist.
The Rangers scored just 2:37 into the second to take the lead back. Price went behind his net to stop the puck, but Sean Avery came charging in to break up the play. The puck squirted out front where Antropov poked it into the net while sliding on his stomach.
New York took a 3-1 lead near the midway mark of the second. On a nice give- and-go play Markus Naslund and Drury worked the puck with Naslund passing it from the left circle to the low slot where Drury redirected it past Price.
The Canadiens had a couple of opportunities to cut into their deficit in the third, but Lundqvist and the defense had the answer to help New York hold on for the win.
