Toronto, ON (My Sportsbook) - Joe Johnson scored nine of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, and Atlanta solidified its position in the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference with a 118-110 victory over the
Toronto Raptors.
Josh Smith also netted 25 points for the Hawks, who snapped a three-game overall skid and five-game slide on the road. It was Atlanta's first road win since March 2 at Washington.
Al Horford chipped in 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Mike Bibby ended with 13 points and 10 assists in the victory. Maurice Evans totaled 17 points, Flip Murray 12 and Zaza Pachulia 11 for Atlanta, which won the season series against the Raptors for the first time since the 1998-99 season.
"We made shots tonight," said Atlanta coach Mike Woodson. "I was a little worried early just from a defensive standpoint because they were scoring pretty easy to start the game. We made a run to get back in it before the half and then in the third and fourth quarter, we shot the lights out."
Chris Bosh scored 21 and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Raptors, who have lost back-to-back contests following a six-game winning streak. Jose Calderon finished with 16 points and 13 assists, while Shawn Marion scored 18 in defeat.
"We were stacking the lane pretty good," said Bosh. "I think Joe Johnson did a good job of creating for his teammates. They shot it with a lot of confidence and they just really let it go."
Toronto was ahead 31-26 after the opening quarter and held a 57-53 edge at the half, but the Hawks gained momentum in the third with a 12-2 burst. Smith and Johnson nailed three-balls during the surge, which was capped by a Bibby jumper for a 69-65 difference. The Hawks carried an 85-84 edge into the fourth.
Joey Graham's two free throws had Toronto in front, 93-92, with nine minutes left, but Murray responded with a three-pointer. Evans hit a shot from beyond the arc, as did Smith for a 101-95 margin with nearly 7 1/2 minutes left.
Johnson's three-ball moved the lead to 112-102 with under three minutes remaining.
