Auburn Hills, MI (My Sportsbook) - Will Bynum connected on 14-of-16 foul shots on his way to a career-high 32 points off the bench, as the Detroit Pistons hung on to defeat the Charlotte Bobcats, 104-97, in a battle between playoff-hopeful teams at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Bynum scored 26 points in the fourth frame, which sets a franchise record. He also doled out a total of seven assists for the Pistons, who snapped a three- game skid. Tayshaun Prince and Richard Hamilton scored 14 and 13 points, respectively. Rasheed Wallace ended with 12 points, six boards, and six assists for the victors.

"I could have sat on the bench and scored two points and I still would have been up cheering trying to get this win," Bynum said.

The Pistons played the entire fourth frame without Hamilton, who was ejected from the game after receiving his second technical foul at the end of the third.

Arron Afflalo finished with 12 points off the bench for Detroit, which has the same record as idle Chicago for the final two spots in the East. Charlotte's hopes of getting into the postseason took a major hit Sunday. The Bobcats, who have never made the playoffs in franchise history, are three games behind the clubs for the eighth and final postseason spot.

Charlotte was paced by D.J. Augustin, who had 22 points. Raymond Felton ended with 18 points for the Bobcats, who lost the season series to Detroit, 3-1. Emeka Okafor and Boris Diaw tallied 14 points each, with Okafor adding 16 rebounds to complete his double-double performance.

"It hurts, but we got to put it behind us. We have another game on Tuesday," Felton said.

The Bobcats were without guard Raja Bell, who is day-to-day with a strained right calf.

Following a wire-to-wire battle to start the fourth quarter, Detroit rattled off nine straight points to take a 93-86 advantage with 2:04 to play. Bynum's deuce topped off the surge.

The Bobcats made a late push but never got closer than three points. Bynum sealed the win for the Pistons by connecting on 11-of-12 from the stripe in the final 1:31 of the contest.

Down 12-10 with about seven minutes left in the first quarter, the Pistons scored eight straight points to gain an 18-12 advantage. Hamilton tallied eight points in the first frame to give Detroit a 24-17 lead after 12 minutes of action.

Ahead 33-23 with over eight minutes left in the second period, the Pistons went on a 9-2 spurt to extend their margin to 42-25. Walter Herrmann, Afflalo, and Wallace all drilled three-pointers during the flurry, which was culminated with a 34-foot bomb from Wallace with under 6 1/2 minutes left.

Detroit held onto a 51-44 advantage heading into the locker room. The Pistons held the Bobcats to 33.3 percent shooting from the field in the first half, while Detroit shot at a 53.8 percent clip.

Trailing 62-55 halfway through the third stanza, Charlotte used a 13-1 run to take a 68-63 lead. Okafor's slam capped off the spurt with 2:35 remaining.

As Hamilton was heading to the Detroit bench after the third period, he made a comment to the referee. The ref issued Hamilton his second technical foul of the game for his comments, which ejected Hamilton from the tilt. Meanwhile, the Bobcats headed into the final 12 minutes of play with a 69-68 edge.

Game Notes

Detroit made 49.4 percent of their shots, while Charlotte shot at a 40.7 percent clip...The Bobcats have lost three straight games.
