Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - The Arizona Diamondbacks placed right- handed pitchers Tom Gordon and Max Scherzer on the 15-day disabled list, the club announced on Sunday. Gordon, who agreed to a one-year contract in the offseason, is suffering from a right elbow ailment that cut his season short last year. The 41-year-old appeared in only 34 games for the Philadelphia Phillies prior to being placed on the DL on July 6 with right elbow inflammation. He went 5-4 with a 5.16 earned run average in 29 2/3 innings with two saves. Gordon, a three-time All-Star, has a career record of 138-125 with 158 saves and a 3.94 ERA over 887 games, including 203 starts. In 20 major league seasons, Gordon has played for Kansas City, Boston, the Chicago Cubs, Houston, the Chicago White Sox, the New York Yankees and Philadelphia. Scherzer, who is experiencing a right shoulder issue, went 0-4 with a 3.05 ERA in 16 contests -- seven starts -- last season.
