Kings silence Coyotes

Los Angeles, CA (My Sportsbook) - Brian Boyle and Alexander Frolov each scored twice, as the Los Angeles Kings crushed the Phoenix Coyotes, 6-1, in the back end of a home-and-home set.

Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams each finished with a goal and two assists for the Kings, who had lost in Phoenix on Thursday. Los Angeles had lost its last three and has now won for the third time in its past 12 games.

"I have been putting a lot of pressure on myself to contribute," Williams said. "I should be an impact player out there, but the first six or seven games were tough for me. I am happy to contribute offensively and get a power-play goal and help our team."

Jonathan Quick stopped 29-of-30 shots in the win.

Shane Doan had the lone goal for Phoenix, which had won its last three contests. Al Montoya allowed all six goals on 32 shots.

Boyle scored the first two goals of the game, both in the first period, to give Los Angeles the edge. The first came 7:02 into the game, as Boyle forced a turnover in the left corner, skated near the crease and put the puck past Montoya.

Then, with 5:08 left in the first, Boyle was in perfect position near the crease as an errant Coyotes pass slid through, and he one-timed it past Montoya to make it a 2-0 game.

Doan got Phoenix back within one just 2:48 into the middle period, his 31st goal, but Frolov got a key tally near the mid-point of the second frame. Los Angeles had a number of players near the Coyotes' net, but no one could get a shot to go until Frolov managed to slam home a rebound to make it 3-1.

"Early into the second period we got ourselves back into the hockey game and thought that we had a lot of good chances to get it to 2-2," Coyotes head coach Wayne Gretzky said. "We hit a cross bar, we missed the break away and they scored the third goal. But the second period I thought we had a solid period and obviously the third period was not a very good period."

It was a runaway from there in the third period. Kopitar scored at 3:36, and Williams and Frolov added power-play tallies later to complete the scoring.

Game Notes

Montoya took his first NHL loss...The teams combined to take 21 penalties. The Kings went 2-for-5 on power plays, while the Coyotes were 0-for-4...Despite the loss, Phoenix won the season series with LA, 4-2.
