Austin, TX (My Sportsbook) - Edwin Valero captured the vacant WBC lightweight title with a second-round technical knockout of Antonio Pitalua Saturday night at the Frank Erwin Center. Valero (25-0, 25 KOs) scored three knockdowns in the second round to send Pitalua (46-4) out early. The bout was stopped with 49 seconds left in the round by referee Laurence Cole. The former WBA 130-pound champion, Valero remained unbeaten in six title fights, while Pitalua lost the WBO title fight in 2000. Pitalua had KO wins in 14 straight fights until Saturday night.
