(My Sportsbook) - The
Philadelphia Flyers will continue their fight for playoff positioning tonight when they visit the
Ottawa Senators for a battle at Scotiabank Place.
The Flyers, who have won twice in their last five games, are currently the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference with 94 points, but they are just one point in front of Carolina and two ahead of sixth-seeded Pittsburgh. The Hurricanes and Penguins are playing each other tonight.
Philadelphia is also still alive in the race for the Atlantic Division crown. New Jersey is six points ahead of the Flyers for the division crown, but the Flyers hold a game in hand over the Devils.
The Flyers ended a two-game slide and avoided a home-and-home sweep with Toronto by recording a victory in Friday's wild affair at the Wachovia Center.
After losing a 3-2 decision in Toronto on Wednesday, Philly exploded in an 8-5 home victory over the Leafs. Jeff Carter notched the first hat trick of his career and added an assist to lead the Flyers to the win.
Danny Briere had a goal and three assists while Claude Giroux added a goal and two helpers for the Flyers. Marty Biron stopped 27 shots in the win.
The Flyers, who are 19-13-6 as the guest this year, had won three straight road games prior to this week's loss in Toronto. Next up for Philly, is Tuesday's home game against the Florida Panthers.
The Senators, who have been eliminated from postseason contention, have lost two straight and four of their last five games.
Ottawa is back home after posting a 2-4-0 record on a six-game road trip. However, the Senators are 20-12-6 as the host this year and have won seven in a row on home ice.
The Sens closed the swing with Thursday's loss in Boston. Tim Thomas made 31 saves to help the Bruins record the 2-1 victory at TD Banknorth Garden.
Daniel Alfredsson scored the lone goal for Ottawa, while Alex Auld made 31 stops.
Ottawa has won two of the three matchups against the Flyers this year and will try to win the season series in the final meeting between the clubs tonight. The Sens have won seven of the last 11 encounters overall and Philadelphia has dropped two straight and five of six in Canada's capital city.
