Glasgow, Scotland (My Sportsbook) - When Aberdeen travels to Fir Park Stadium on Saturday to meet Motherwell, the Dons will be doing so with a spot in the top six in mind.
A win over the seventh-placed home side would guarantee manager Jimmy Calderwood's side a spot in the top half of the Scottish Premier League, while Motherwell would love to spoil their hopes and move closer to a top-half spot themselves.
Motherwell is sitting in the bottom half on goal difference, but a win on Saturday combined with a Hibernian loss at Dundee United would put the team in sixth.
Aberdeen would not only love to finish in the top half but is also eyeing third-placed Hearts, which sits five points clear of the Dons, a fact that is not lost on Calderwood heading into Saturday's game.
"Saturday is a chance to get back to business," the manager said. "If we win the game we know we are in the top six. That is the first thing. Also if we win the game we might get nearer to Hearts."
Calderwood's side enters the match with one win and four draws in its last five games, but the boss is unsure how the time off for the international break will effect his team, although he believes the rest will be welcomed over the remainder of the season.
"I am not sure if the international break came for us at a good time or not," Calderwood said. "We will find out on Saturday. I think it is always good though for everyone at this stage of the season to get a little break. It allows everyone to recharge the batteries so we can push forward and push on and hopefully get third position."
If Aberdeen is to come away with a win, they will have to do so against a Motherwell side that has lost just once in its last 12 league games.
Aberdeen must also achieve the result without the services of strikers Darren Mackie and Tommy Wright, while midfielder Mark Kerr is suspended.
The race for the title will continue on Saturday with leaders Celtic hosting Hamilton, while second-placed Rangers, which sits three points back, will travel to last-placed Falkirk on Sunday.
Saturday's other matches include Dundee United hosting Hibernian, Kilmarnock visiting Hearts and St. Mirren meeting Inverness in a battle of bottom-three teams.
