Tucson, AZ (My Sportsbook) - The Colorado Rockies made a host of roster moves on Monday, most notably optioning outfielder Matt Murton to the minor leagues along with pitcher Greg Smith and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, two players the team acquired from Oakland in the Matt Holliday trade. Along with Murton, Smith and Gonzalez all being sent to Triple-A Colorado Springs, catchers Edwin Bellorin and Paul Phillips and left-handed pitcher Randy Flores were all reassigned to minor league camp. Murton split last season with the Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics, as he was part of the deal that sent pitcher Rich Harden to the Cubs. In nine games with the A's after the deal, Murton hit .129 with two runs batted in. The 27-year-old is a career .288 batter with 28 homers and 106 RBI in 317 games with the Cubs and Athletics. He was acquired by Colorado from Oakland on February 4. Smith, 25, made 32 starts with Oakland as a rookie in 2008, going 7-16 with a 4.16 earned-run average and two complete games. The left-hander struck out 111 batters over 190 1/3 innings. Gonzalez, who also came over to Colorado during the offseason in the Holliday trade along with reliever Huston Street, is a highly touted prospect from Venezuela who hit .242 with four homers and 26 RBI in 85 games with Oakland last year. It was the 23-year-old's first taste of major-league action.
