(My Sportsbook) - A desperate
Phoenix Suns team will arrive in California's capital Sunday, hoping to gain ground in the Western Conference playoff race against the woeful
Sacramento Kings.
The Suns are now 3 1/2 games behind Dallas for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference after falling in overtime to the Jazz on Saturday in Salt Lake City.
Deron Williams scored seven of his 21 points in overtime and dished out 13 assists in that one as Utah won its 14th straight home game, beating Phoenix, 104-99, in a wild momentum-twisting battle.
Steve Nash had 20 points and six assists for the Suns, who rallied from a 21- point deficit to take a seven-point lead with two minutes left in regulation, but suffered their second straight loss after winning six in a row. Grant Hill tallied 19 points for Phoenix, which fell to 16-20 on the road.
The Suns converted 23 Utah turnovers into 26 points, but couldn't steal the victory on the night Jazz coach Jerry Sloan celebrated his 67th birthday.
Shaquille O'Neal ended with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Matt Barnes totaled 14 points and 10 boards before fouling out for the Suns.
Sacramento, meanwhile, fell to 0-2 on a four-game homestand after a rare loss to Memphis on Friday. Marc Gasol scored 27 points to lead the Grizzlies past the Kings, 113-95, snapping a 20-game losing streak in Sacramento.
The Memphis franchise's only other win in Sacramento was on April 19, 1998 when the then-Vancouver Grizzlies earned a 112-108 overtime victory. Overall, the Grizzlies are a dismal 2-25 at ARCO Arena.
Kevin Martin poured in a game-best 31 points for the Kings, who have dropped two in a row and seven of eight overall. Jason Thompson donated 17 points and Andres Nocioni 14 in defeat.
Sacramento, which is 10-25 at home, has dropped six straight and 11 of its past 12 meetings with Phoenix.
