Berkeley, CA (My Sportsbook) - Jayne Appel finished with a double-double consisting of 25 points and 11 rebounds as she led the Stanford Cardinal to the lopsided 84-66 win against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Berkeley Regional Semifinals of the NCAA Tournament at Haas Pavilion.
Appel, who shot 11-of-20 from the field for the second-seeded Cardinal (32-4), was one of four players to score in double figures as Jillian Harmon added 16 points, six assists and four steals, followed by Nnemkadi Ogwumike and Rosalyn Gold-Onwude with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
The third-seeded Buckeyes (29-6) were paced by Samantha Prahalis with 19 points and six assists, Jantel Lavender 15 points and six boards and Sarah Schulze 12 points off the bench in the setback.
With the victory the Cardinal will now face off against fourth-seeded Iowa State on Monday night in the regional final for the right to advance to the Final Four in St. Louis next weekend.
OSU began the contest with an 8-2 run, but it wasn't long before the Cardinal was back in the mix with a 7-0 run of its own, allowing Stanford to eventually grab a 37-35 lead at the break. Prahalis accounted for 12 points for the Buckeyes in the frame, Gold-Onwude eight for the Cardinal.
Midway through the second half Ohio State cut its deficit to just three points at 57-54, but the Cardinal then attacked on the inside and closed out the contest on an amazing 18-4 run to make it look easy in the 84-66 final.
In a game that saw four ties and 11 lead changes, the Buckeyes shot just 40.7 percent from the floor and 3-of-10 beyond the arc, while trying to combat 14 turnovers.
OSU entered the night allowing an average of only 56.8 ppg on a mere 36.6 percent shooting from the field, but the Cardinal blew away those numbers with 84 points and nearly 51 percent accuracy from the floor.
