Berkeley, CA (My Sportsbook) - Alison Lacey's three-pointer from the top of the key with under 30 seconds remaining proved to be the game-winner as the Iowa State Cyclones slipped by the Michigan State Spartans, 69-68, in the Berkeley Region of the NCAA Tournament at Haas Pavilion. Lacey finished the contest with 29 points for the fourth-seeded Cyclones (27-8), while Amanda Nisleit contributed 17 points and seven boards. Heather Ezell chipped in 14 points as the only other player on the squad with more than three points. The eight-seeded Spartans (23-10) were paced by Allyssa DeHaan with 24 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots, followed by Mia Johnson and Aisha Jefferson with 13 and 10 points, respectively, in the setback. The Spartans kicked off the game with a 7-0 run, but once Iowa State warmed up it was the Cyclones who grabbed a 38-36 lead at the break, despite shooting only 35.5 percent from the field. The Cyclones, who have now tied the school record for wins in a season, trailed by a score of 68-61 with just under a minute and a half to play in regulation, but an 8-0 run by the squad to close out the contest was capped by the deep three by Lacey to send the Cyclones to the next round of the annual event. ISU finished the night shooting just 35.7 percent from the floor, but made up for it by outscoring the Spartans 19-8 at the free-throw line. With the victory the Cyclones now advance to the Elite Eight for just the second time in school history (1999) and will face the Stanford Cardinal on Monday night for the right to move on to the Final Four in St. Louis next weekend.
