Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - In-Kyung Kim carded her second consecutive four-under 68 on Friday to remain in the lead midway through the J Golf Phoenix LPGA International.
Kim, a 20-year-old from South Korea, doubled her one-shot overnight lead and stands at eight-under-par 136 -- two strokes ahead of Hall of Famer Karrie Webb (68) and Suzann Pettersen (69).
Song-Hee Kim (69) and Eun-Hee Ji (70) are tied for fourth place at five-under 139, while Angela Stanford (67) and Jiyai Shin (71) share sixth place at 140.
Lorena Ochoa, the world No. 1 and a two-time defending champion at the LPGA Tour's Phoenix stop, posted her second straight 72 and fell eight strokes off the lead at even-par 144.
Ochoa made a triple-bogey six on the second hole of the Papago course.
"I hit the wrong iron. It was a little bit windy and I misjudged the wind," Ochoa explained. "It was hurting more than just left-to-right and it ended up in the water."
With so much golf left to play, Ochoa said she was not upset with her position.
"Tomorrow it's important to have a good round, be aggressive and hopefully things will work for me," the Mexican star said.
In-Kyung Kim had an up-and-down start to her second round. She posted four birdies on the front nine, but also two bogeys. She dropped shots by knocking her approach over the green on No. 4 and three-putting No. 5.
The leader settled down on the back nine, beginning with a two-putt birdie at the par-five 10th, where she hit the green in two shots with a three-wood. She followed that with a tap-in birdie at the 11th and then parred her remaining holes.
"I really had a good day out there," said Kim, who won last year's Longs Drugs Challenge for her first LPGA Tour win. "I hit a lot of fairways and greens."
She managed to stay in control of her shots despite the windy conditions -- although things were calmer than Thursday, when gusts slowed players down.
"We [were] fortunate without strong [wind gusts], we didn't have that," said Kim, "so it was more playable than what I expected."
The 34-year-old Webb, seeking her first win since 2006, collected five birdies against just one bogey. Her longest birdie putt came from 20 feet at No. 8; the rest were inside 10 feet.
"I feel pretty good about the way I've played," said the Australian. "I've played really solidly for two days and that's got me up there with a chance, at least."
Pettersen, the 27-year-old from Norway who won five times during the 2007 season, posted five birdies and two bogeys on Friday. She was delighted the wind had died down.
"Yesterday was obviously quite brutal compared to today. I just tried to take advantage of the conditions we had this morning," Pettersen said. "It was nice to come out and not lose your hat on the first tee."
The cut line fell at five-over 149.
Michelle Wie -- 19 years old and making her second start of the season -- made the cut on the number after stumbling to a four-over 76 in the second round. She is still seeking her first LPGA Tour win.
