Cap Cana, Dominican Republic (My Sportsbook) - David Eger carded a five-under 67 Friday to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of The Cap Cana Championship.
Eger hasn't won on the Champions Tour since the 2005 Greater Seattle Classic.
Nick Price leads a group of five players tied for second place at minus-four on the Jack Nicklaus Course at Punta Espada Golf Club. Price shares second with Eduardo Romero, Tom Jenkins, Keith Fergus and Tim Simpson.
Eger played the back nine first on Friday and posted a bogey-free round. After a par on 10, Eger birdied the 11th to get his round going.
He parred the next three holes, then dropped in his second birdie effort on the par-five 15th. Eger made the turn at minus-three after making birdie on the 17th.
Eger parred four straight from the 18th. He then carded birdies on four and six to secure the lead. Eger parred out to take his fourth 18-hole lead on the Champions Tour. He has not been able to hold the lead in the previous three, but does own two Champions Tour wins.
Price carded six birdies and two bogeys, including one on the 18th.
Fergus did the same as he closed with a bogey to shoot 68. Romero also bogeyed the 18th, but he played that as his ninth hole. On the front side, three birdies gave him a share of second.
Jenkins and Simpson carded bogey-free 68s with four birdies apiece. Both players had three birdies on the front nine, including three in a row from the second for Simpson.
John Cook carded a three-under 69 and is alone in seventh place.
