(My Sportsbook) - Still in the mix for home-ice advantage in the playoff's first round, the
Vancouver Canucks visit the struggling
Colorado Avalanche tonight at the Pepsi Center.
Despite losses in two of their last three games, the Canucks are still fifth overall in the Western Conference. They are two points behind fourth-seeded Chicago, while first-place Calgary owns just a three-point edge over Vancouver in the Northwest Division.
The Canucks play the fourth contest of a six-game road trip tonight and were handed a 4-2 loss in St. Louis on Thursday. Taylor Pyatt and Alex Burrows accounted for the Vancouver goals, but the Canucks fell to 17-14-5 as the guest after losing for the fifth time in their last six road games.
Vancouver likely can't wait until the end of this trek, as the franchise is currently riding an 11-game home winning streak. The Canucks don't play at home again until April 2.
Roberto Luongo allowed four goals on 32 shots versus the Blues and dropped to just 13-4-1 in his last 18 starts. Luongo has struggled in his career versus the Avalanche, going 6-13-3 with a 3.06 goals against average.
However, he did defeat Colorado on March 15 to halt his personal seven-start losing streak to the club as well as the Canucks' eight-game skid in the series to the Avalanche.
Vancouver, which is 1-0-2 versus Colorado this year, has lost its last four trips to the Pepsi Center.
The Avalanche, last in the Western Conference with 64 points, have lost five straight and 12 of their last 15 contests. They were last in action on Wednesday, when they were routed by Anaheim, 7-2.
Milan Hejduk and Cody McLeod each had a goal for the Avalanche, who have are 18-18-0 at home this year and have been outscored 15-3 in their last two games at the Pepsi Center.
Peter Budaj got the start for Colorado and was pulled after surrendering three goals on 14 shots through the first 20 minutes. Andrew Raycroft spelled him in the second period and gave up four goals on eight shots. Budaj was inserted back between the pipes in the third period and made seven saves.
Budaj is 4-3-0 with a 2.97 GAA in his career versus Vancouver, while Raycroft is 1-2-0 with a 3.60 GAA against the club. Hejduk, meanwhile, has 34 goals in 58 career games versus the Canucks.
The five-goal setback came on the same day that Colorado announced center Paul Stastny will miss the next two-to-four weeks with a broken foot.
