Toronto, ON (My Sportsbook) - Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Martin Gerber was suspended three games without pay Wednesday by the National Hockey League. Gerber was given the suspension for his actions late in regulation of Tuesday's shootout win over Washington. Upset over a goal being allowed, an irate Gerber angrily made contact with referee Mike Leggo and shot the puck at the officials. According to NHL rules, an automatic three-game suspension will be doled out to any player who makes contact with an official. The Swiss netminder will forfeit $59,677.41 in salary, and will not be eligible to return until April 3 when Toronto visits the Flyers. Toronto claimed Gerber off re-entry waivers from the Ottawa Senators on March 4. He is 4-3-0 with a 2.89 goals-against average and .910 save percentage in eight games with the Maple Leafs.
