Heat hope to stop ugly slide in Indy vs. Pacers

(My Sportsbook) - The Miami Heat will try and stand ground in the Eastern Conference standings when they kick off a quick two-game road trip tonight against the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse.

The Heat haven't fared too well as the visitor in this series and are winless in their last 13 trips to Indiana. Miami is 5-33 at Conseco Fieldhouse. The 2008-09 season series between the Heat and Pacers is tied at a game piece, with each team winning on its home floor. Indiana has won 20 of the last 26 meetings with the Heat.

Miami is seeded fifth in the East with the Philadelphia 76ers just 1 1/2 games behind in the standings. It has won two in a row after a three-game slide and is coming off Monday's 94-82 home victory versus the Memphis Grizzlies. NBA leading scorer Dwayne Wade led the way with 27 points and eight assists and eclipsed his 2005-06 mark of 2,040 points, which he set in 75 games that season and now has 2,064 points through 70 contests.

Rookie Michael Beasley totaled 17 points and nine rebounds for Miami, which has won five of its last eight games. Jamaal Magloire had a season-high 12 rebounds to go with 10 points in the absence of forward Jermaine O'Neal, who sat out with a bruised right hip. He aggravated the injury in Sunday's win against Detroit, but isn't expected to miss an extended amount of time. O'Neal is probable for Wednesday's game.

The Heat will also visit the playoff-hungry Chicago Bulls on the road swing and are just 13-21 away from South Beach this season.

Indiana's playoff hopes are hanging by a thread as the Pacers sit 4 1/2 games off the eighth and final postseason berth in the East. The Pacers put the brakes on a five-game losing streak with a 108-83 road bashing of the Charlotte Bobcats on Saturday.

Jarrett Jack had a big game with 31 points and went 13-of-14 from the field for Indiana, which got 21 points from Danny Granger and 14 out of Troy Murphy. Brandon Rush contributed 15 points in a winning effort. The Pacers will try to stop a three-game slide at home and are 19-14 as the host this season.
