Storrs, CT (My Sportsbook) - Maya Moore recorded a double-double with 22 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to lead the Connecticut Huskies to an 87-59 win over the Florida Gators in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Gampel Pavilion. Tina Charles had a double-double of her own for top-seeded UConn (35-0) with 22 points and 10 boards in order to offset six turnovers, while Renee Montgomery led all scorers with 25 points on 5-of-10 shooting behind the three-point line as she logged her 11th game of the season with at least 20 points. The eighth-seeded Gators (24-8) were paced by Marshae Dotson with 22 points and six rebounds, followed by Lonnika Thompson with 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting behind the three-point line off the bench. UConn began the game a bit sluggish, missing six straight field goal attempts before hitting its stride and moving out to a 47-26 lead at the break by limiting the visitors to a mere 30.3 percent shooting from the floor. In the second half it was a staggering 68.2 percent shooting effort by the Huskies that kept Florida at a distance and eventually provided the favorite with the 28-point decision. UConn, which led by as many as 36 points late in the contest, overcame 17 turnovers by taking care of the Gators on the glass, 51-28. At 35-0 the Huskies, who will now meet fourth-seeded California in the Trenton Region next week, have their best overall record since finishing up a perfect 39-0 in 2002.
