New Orleans, LA (My Sportsbook) - Chris Paul scored a game-high 27 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out eight assists to lead the New Orleans Hornets past the Golden State Warriors, 99-89, at New Orleans Arena.

David West added 23 points and six assists for the Hornets, who improved to 3-1 on a five-game homestand. Hilton Armstrong contributed a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Rasual Butler ended with 13 points for the victors.

New Orleans also improved to 26-10 on its home floor this season, and is 1 1/2 games behind Houston for the top spot in the Southwest Division.

New Orleans played Sunday's game without center Tyson Chandler (sore left ankle) and veteran forward Peja Stojakovic (back spasms).

"It was a good win for us. We went into the fourth quarter up by maybe 20 points. We knew this was a team that was not going to give up and we still came out with a win," said Paul.

Golden State was paced by Stephen Jackson, who finished with 22 points and 10 boards. Kelenna Azubuike added 16 points and six rebounds for the Warriors, who dropped to 6-29 on the road this year. Monta Ellis and Ronny Turiaf ended with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Corey Maggette poured in 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds off the bench in defeat.

The Warriors, who have dropped five in a row away from home, also dropped to 0-1 on a four-game road trip. They will also play the Spurs, Mavericks and Nuggets during the trip.

The Warriors were able to hang with the Hornets for a majority of the first quarter, but New Orleans took control of the game with the score tied at 20 with over two minutes to play in the frame.

The Hornets went on an 18-2 run bridging the end of the first stanza and beginning of the second period. Armstrong connected on a pair of shots from the stripe to culminate the surge, putting the home team ahead 38-22 with 7 1/2 minutes to go in the second quarter.

New Orleans, which led by as many as 20 in the second frame, took a 54-37 lead into the locker room.

Golden State never got closer than 15 points in the third quarter as the Hornets took a commanding 78-58 margin into the final 12 minutes of play.

The Warriors made a late push to cut the deficit to nine points, but it was too late.

"We waited to play too late. You can't wait and play too late against a good team like that," said Jackson. "We started the game off good, but in the second quarter they outscored us and got the big lead. When you have a great point guard like Chris Paul and a great player like David West, they kept us out of the game."

Game Notes

The Hornets shot 45.3 percent from the field, compared to 39.5 percent for Golden State...New Orleans leads the season series 2-1. The Hornets have won 11 of the last 19 meetings against the Warriors, who are just 3-13 in their previous 16 trips to the Big Easy...New Orleans will finish their homestand against Denver on Wednesday...Hornets forward Ryan Bowen tied a season-high with six points before leaving with a separated left shoulder.
