Bowling Green, KY (My Sportsbook) - Porchia Green scored a game-high 23 points and the 12th-seeded Ball State Cardinals stunned the fifth-seeded Tennessee Lady Vols, 71-55, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament's Berkeley Regional at E.A. Diddle Arena. Audrey McDonald netted 18 points for BSU (26-8), which will do battle with fourth-seeded Iowa State in the second round on Tuesday. The Cardinals, making their NCAA Tournament debut, also received 14 points for Kiley Jarrett. Shekinna Stricklen tallied 17 points for the two-time defending champion Lady Vols (22-11), who had been a perfect 42-0 in first and second round games in the NCAA Tournament. Angie Bjorklund finished with 14 points, and Kelley Cain had 10 points and eight boards before leaving with a knee injury in the first half. Both teams shot just above 36 percent from the floor in the opening half and BSU went into the break with a narrow 29-28 edge. The Cardinals took over in the second stanza, hitting on 57.1 percent of their attempts from the field and 5-of-7 from long range on their way to the 16- point win. With the outcome, Tennessee became the first defending champion to lose in the opening round of the women's tourney.
