Dayton, OH (My Sportsbook) - Terrence Williams scored 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as top-seeded Louisville advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 79-72 win over ninth-seeded Siena in a Midwest Regional second-round matchup at UD Arena.

Samardo Samuels registered 13 points and eight boards, while Earl Clark went for 12 points and 12 rebounds for Louisville (30-5), which got its tourney run started on Friday with an expected, 74-54 victory over 16th-seeded Morehead State. The Cardinals have now won 12 straight games and will face 12th-seeded Arizona in a matchup in Indianapolis on Friday.

The Cardinals have reached the Sweet 16 for the 17th time in school history.

Edwin Ubiles had 24 points and eight boards to lead Siena (27-8), which saw its season come to an end after pulling off a dramatic 74-72 double-overtime win against eighth-seeded Ohio State on Friday.

Alex Franklin chipped in with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Kenny Hasbrouck had 11 points for the Saints, which tied the school record with 27 victories this season.

Ronald Moore dished out a game-high 10 assists in defeat.

In the second half, the Cardinals held a 50-40 lead in the early stages and 57-51 with 12:06 remaining in the contest, before the Saints took advantage of some sloppy play by Louisville.

Clarence Jackson scored nine points in a 12-0 Siena burst and, after he made a layup with 7:52 to play, the upset-minded Saints grabbed a 63-57 lead.

The advantage would be short-lived as the underdogs went ice cold from the floor and were held scoreless for nearly 5 1/2 minutes of game action.

During the dry spell, the Cardinals were ignited by Williams, who started a 9-0 run with a lay-in followed by a three-pointer. He then capped the surge with another layup and pushed his squad in front by a 66-63 margin with just under 3 1/2 minutes left.

Ubiles would end the drought with a basket and get Siena within a point at the 2 1/2-minute mark, but the Saints would not be able to overtake the top seed.

Clark responded with a jumper and after two Franklin makes from the stripe, a pair of Andre McGee free throws and Clark jam boosted the Cardinals lead to 72-67 with a shade over a minute to play.

Louisville raced out to a quick 11-5 start, but a three-point play from Franklin quickly got Siena within 16-14 nearly eight minutes in.

However, a Williams trey finished off a 12-0 run and the Cardinals advantage ballooned to 28-14 at the 7 1/2-minute mark. Siena would get its deficit down to single-digits at 38-33 following an Owen Wignot jumper with 1:01 left in the half. But Williams' breakaway lay-in beat the buzzer and Louisville had a 42-35 edge heading into the break.

Game Notes

The Cardinals and Saints have met just one time previously on the hardwood, with Siena capturing a 78-71 victory all the way back in 1953...Louisville shot 49.2 percent from the floor, including 45 percent from three-point range...Siena made 42 percent of its shots, but only 29.2 percent from beyond the arc...The Cardinals won the rebounding battle 47-32.
