Storrs, CT (My Sportsbook) - Sha Brooks scored 18 points to lead the eighth- seeded Florida Gators to a 70-57 win over the Temple Owls in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Steffi Sorensen recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Gators (24-7), who will take on top-seeded UConn in the second round. Shenita Landry paced Temple (21-10) with 13 points, while Shanea Cotton and Kristen McCarthy scored 12 apiece. The teams went back and forth to start the game, with Florida clinging to a 20-19 lead before breaking out a 14-2 run to make it 34-21. The Gators led at the break, 41-33. The Owls were hanging around in the second stanza, trailing by a 43-39 margin before the Gators reeled off nine straight points to seize the momentum. Temple shot 0-for-12 from beyond the arc, while Florida hit 6-of-13 three- pointers for the game.
