Storrs, CT (My Sportsbook) - Tina Charles piled up 32 points and 11 rebounds, leading the top-seeded Connecticut Huskies to a 104-65 rout over the 16th-seeded Vermont Catamounts in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Charles was virtually unstoppable in the low post, as she shot 13-of-14 from the floor and exited after 24 minutes of action. Renee Montgomery added 19 points and seven assists for the Huskies (34-0), who will face the winner of (8) Florida/(9) Temple in the second round. Kalana Greene and Maya Moore scored 13 apiece in the win. Courtnay Pilypaitis paced Vermont (21-12) with 24 points, but the Catamounts dug themselves an early hole and were never able to recover. Andrea Cihal scored 10 off the bench. UConn shot a blistering 74.2 percent from the floor in the first half, including a 6-of-11 effort from the perimeter, as the Huskies jumped out to a 56-22 halftime lead. The Huskies shot 52.9 percent in the second half, and led by as many as 48 with 10 minutes to play. UConn was simply too much for Vermont down low, as the Huskies scored 54 points in the paint and held a 37-21 rebounding advantage for the game.
