San Diego, CA (My Sportsbook) - Jayne Appel's double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds led the way for Stanford, as the second-seeded Cardinal defeated the 15th-seeded UC Santa Barbara Gauchos, 74-39, in first round action at the Cox Arena. Nnemkadi Ogwumike added a double-double of 13 points and 11 boards for Stanford (30-4), while Jeanette Pohlen also contributed 13 points in the win. Kayla Pedersen posted 10 points and nine boards for Stanford. Whitney Warren netted 10 points for UCSB (22-10), while Jenna Green chipped in seven points, to go along with 10 rebounds. The Cardinal held UCSB to an embarrassing 19.4 percent shooting effort from the floor in the opening half and went into the break with a commanding, 42-14 advantage. Despite shooting only 34.2 percent from the field in the second frame, the Cardinal were still able to win by a 35-point margin. Stanford dominated the glass in the contest, outrebounding UCSB by a 57-31 margin. The Cardinal will now take on the 10th-seeded San Diego State Aztecs in the second round.
