Los Angeles, CA (My Sportsbook) - Ariana Moorer scored 16 points to lead the fifth-seeded Virginia Cavaliers to a thrilling, 68-61 victory over the 12th- seeded Marist Red Foxes in first round action of the NCAA Tournament at the Galen Center. Monica Wright and Lyndra Littles added 13 points apiece for Virginia (24-9), while Aisha Mohammed posted a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds. Erica Allenspach netted 18 points for Marist (29-4), while Rachele Fitz tallied a double-double of 17 points and 10 boards in the setback. Marist held the Cavaliers to a meager 30.3 percent shooting effort from the floor in the opening frame and went into the break with a 26-21 lead. Virginia stormed back in the second stanza however, shooting 44.8 percent from the field, while also connecting on 16-of-21 attempts from the foul line, en route to the seven-point win. The Cavs scored 21 points off 18 Marist turnovers, while the Red Foxes posted just seven points off 12 Virginia miscues. Virginia will now take on the California Golden Bears in second round action.
