Boise, ID (My Sportsbook) - Trevon Hughes scored 10 points and made a finger roll with two seconds left in overtime to lift 12th-seeded Wisconsin to a 61-59 upset-win over fifth-seeded Florida State in an East Region first-round matchup of the NCAA Tournament.

With the score tied at 56, Toney Douglas drilled a trey with 1:14 remaining to put the Seminoles ahead by three. But Hughes found an open Jordan Taylor under the basket on the ensuing Wisconsin possession. Taylor made the easy layup to cut the gap to one with 47.4 seconds remaining.

Douglas misfired on a three-pointer with around 14 ticks left. Jason Bohannon grabbed the defensive board and raced across midcourt before calling a timeout with 8.3 seconds to go.

Hughes took the inbound pass and drove to his left before spinning and throwing up a wild finger roll. Hughes somehow managed to make the shot as Douglas fouled him. Hughes drilled the foul shot to give the Badgers a 61-59 edge with 2.0 ticks remaining. Florida State failed to get off a shot after a football-like pass from under their own basket.

"Basically come off the screen from my big man, either me or J-Bo, and they left me open and they let me get it and they let me make a play. Basically I got in the lane and did what I had to do and that's get the W," Hughes said, describing the last play.

Bohannon added 16 points for the Badgers (20-12), who advance to play fourth- seeded Xavier in the second round on Sunday. Marcus Landry ended with 10 points, while Keaton Nankivil had 14 points off the bench.

Douglas paced Florida State with 26 points. Chris Singleton ended with 12 points for the Seminoles (25-10), who dropped to 12-11 all-time in the tourney.

Florida State, which reached the title game of the ACC Tournament, was making its first tournament appearance in 11 years. They have appeared in the tournament a total of 11 times.

"I thought we got beat by a team tonight that stuck with their game plan for 40 minutes on the offensive end. They did a very good job of executing when the game was on the line," Florida State head coach Leonard Hamilton said. "I thought that their experience showed. They got -- we lost a couple of their shooters on some baseline cuts and lost our defensive discipline. We have been accustomed to getting the stops we had to have all year long and tonight we just came up a little short. You got to give Wisconsin credit."

Trailing by 12 points, the Badgers came out on fire to start the second half. Wisconsin ripped off 13 consecutive points to take a 32-31 edge with 14:40 remaining. Nankivil ended the run with a pair of three-pointers and a layup.

Florida State started the second half 0-of-5 from the field before Douglas drilled a jumper with 14:15 to go.

Down 37-35 with over 12 minutes left, the Seminoles rattled off nine straight points to regain the lead, 44-37. A jumper and a three-point play from Douglas culminated the flurry with 9:43 remaining.

Wisconsin didn't back down, though, as Hughes capped off a 7-0 surge with a trey to knot the game at 46 with 3:12 to go.

Ahead 50-49, Kitchen turned the ball over along the left sideline with 1:29 left. The Badgers took full advantage of Kitchen's mistake as Bohannon drilled a 30-foot bomb from the top of the key to give Wisconsin a 52-50 edge with 52.8 ticks remaining.

Douglas made a pair of foul shots to tie the game with 36.6 seconds left, and Jordan Taylor missed a shot from beyond the arc at the other end to send the game into overtime.

A Landry jumper put the Badgers ahead 12-7 with 10:18 to play in the first half. But Florida State responded with 10 straight points to take a 17-12 lead. Xavier Gibson's three-point play culminated the run with just over seven minutes left until half.

Wisconsin fought right back with a pair of foul shots from Nankivil and a Tim Jarmusz trey to deadlock the score at 17. But the Seminoles quickly took back the momentum.

Florida State ended the first frame on a 14-2 run to take a comfortable 31-19 lead into the locker room. Singleton knocked down a pair of three-pointers to highlight the surge, which was capped off by Douglas' pair of shots from the stripe.

The Seminoles shot 50 percent from the field at the break, while the Badgers shot a measly 28.0 percent.

Game Notes

Wisconsin went 9-of-27 from beyond the arc, while Florida State hit 4-of-13 three-pointers...The Seminoles made 15-of-18 from the stripe, compared to 8- of-12 for the Badgers...Wisconsin won both previous meetings with Florida State, including an 81-68 triumph over Florida State in 2006.
