Nyon, Switzerland (My Sportsbook) - Manchester City have been paired with Hamburg following the draw for the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup.
City, who survived a dramatic fight back from Aalborg on Thursday night to be in the hat for the draw, will travel to Germany for the first leg against the Bundesliga side on April 9.
The Eastlands side will come up against a familiar face in Martin Jol as the former Tottenham coach has led a solid Hamburg unit to fourth place in the Bundesliga table this season.
Shay Given was City's penalty shootout hero as Mark Hughes' side edged past Aalborg to seal a place in the last eight.
City appeared to be easing into the quarterfinals until the last six minutes of normal time when the Danish side scored twice to make it 2-2 on aggregate and force extra time.
There were no more goals in the extra 30 minutes but keeper Given saved from Thomas Augustinussen and Luton Shelton in the shootout as City eventually won 4-3 on penalties.
Meanwhile, there will be no immediate return to the HSH Nordbank Arena for City's former Hamburg midfielder Nigel de Jong as the Dutchman, who swapped the Bundesliga for the Premier League in January, is ineligible for European competition.
However, Belgian midfielder Vincent Kompany, who made the same move last summer, is likely to play against his former employers.
Should City overcome Hamburg then they could be returning to Germany to play Werder Bremen as the draw for the semifinals was made at the same time.
