Fort Myers, FL (My Sportsbook) - Boston Red Sox shortstop Julio Lugo will miss the next 3-to-4 weeks after undergoing successful right knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus on Tuesday. The oft-injured Lugo, who was battling it out with Jed Lowrie for the starting shortstop position, hit .268 with one homer and 22 runs batted in over only 82 games last season when he was slowed by a torn quad. Lugo had informed the team about soreness in the knee during Friday's contest against the New York Yankees and underwent an MRI exam. Surgery was performed after the initial diagnosis. The procedure was done by Dr. Thomas Gill in Boston, where Lugo is expected to stay for the next week before returning to Boston's spring training complex in Fort Myers. In 1,149 career games, the middle infielder has a .271 batting average with 77 home runs, 431 RBI and 184 stolen bases with Houston, Tampa Bay, Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston.
