Kissimmee, FL (My Sportsbook) - The Houston Astros have reportedly signed 37-year-old backstop Ivan Rodriguez to a one-year, $1.5 million contract with an additional $1.5 million in incentive bonuses. According to a report on MLB.com on Monday, the free agent is expected to sign with the Astros pending a physical, which will take place following the World Baseball Classic. Rodriguez has shown signs of rejuvenation with Puerto Rico in the WBC, going 9-for-15 at the plate with two home runs in four games with the club prior to Monday's tilt against Venezuela. The 14-time All-Star batted a career-low .219 after being traded mid-season from the Tigers to the Yankees last year. In 33 games with New York, the 18- year vet recorded just two homers and three RBI. Over his career, however, Rodriguez has compiled impressive numbers across the board. He is a career .301 hitter with 295 home runs and 1,217 RBI while putting together a .991 field percentage. Houston would be the fifth stop for "Pudge" in the big leagues, after he spent 12 seasons with Texas (1991-2002), one with Florida (2003), and four-plus with Detroit (2004-2008) before last season's trade to New York.
