Jupiter, FL (My Sportsbook) - The Florida Marlins parted ways with Jay Gibbons on Friday after the outfielder batted .313 with one homer and seven RBI in six spring training games with the club. Florida signed Gibbons, 32, to a minor league contract in the offseason. The seven-year veteran of the major leagues has not seen action in the bigs since 2007, the year of his admission to using human growth hormone. With no big league teams showing interest in the veteran outfielder last season, Gibbons joined the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League for a short time before signing a minor league deal with the Brewers. Gibbons batted .308 with five homers and 17 RBI in 34 games between Double-A Huntsville and Triple-A Nashville. Gibbons appeared in 779 games with the Baltimore Orioles from 2001-2007, sporting a .260 average with 121 homers and 405 RBI. In other moves Friday, Florida sent down outfielder Michael Stanton, catchers Kyle Skipworth and Miguel Fermin, third baseman Matt Dominguez, and pitchers Jose Ceda and Michael Wood, while optioning outfielder Jai Miller to their Triple-A affiliate in New Orleans.
