Peoria, AZ (My Sportsbook) - The Seattle Mariners signed relief pitcher Chad Cordero to a minor league contract on Thursday. Cordero, who had spent his entire six-year career with the Montreal/Washington franchise, had surgery on the labrum in his right shoulder last season, forcing him to appear in just six games following a 37-save campaign in 2007. "We are going to take it one step at a time, but we are optimistic that Chad can help us this season," Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said. "Chad has been a quality Major League closer and we look forward to his contributions to our ballclub in 2009." In 305 career appearances -- all out of the bullpen -- Cordero, who turns 27 on March 18, has compiled a 20-14 record with 128 saves and a 2.78 earned run average.
