Barcelona, Spain (My Sportsbook) - The new Brawn GP Formula One team continued to be impressive in their early existence, as Rubens Barrichello led the way in the final day of testing Thursday at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya.
Barrichello, in the Brawn BGP 001 car, recorded the quickest lap during the four-day test session at 1 minute, 18.926 seconds. The Brazilian finished eight-tenths of a second ahead of the closest competitor, Nico Rosberg of Williams.
Toyota's Timo Glock was third fastest, followed by Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull and Renault's Fernando Alonso.
Reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton finished eighth of the 11 drivers who participated in testing. Hamilton was nearly two seconds off of Barrichello's pace.
Barrichello's teammate, Jenson Button, topped the charts in Wednesday's session.
"We are extremely pleased with the inaugural test of the BGP 001 car in Barcelona this week," team principle Ross Brawn said. "The team made a very late start to our pre-season testing program with only seven days in which to run the car before the first race in Melbourne. Therefore our focus has been on reliability and achieving as much mileage as possible."
Brawn GP made its debut in the first day of testing at Barcelona on Monday, with Button turning in the fourth-quickest time. Honda and Brawn announced last week they had reached an agreement to secure the future of the former Honda Racing team in F1, with the Japanese auto manufacture passing ownership to Brawn effective immediately.
Honda announced in December it was pulling out of F1 competition and selling its team due to global economic conditions.
Barcelona marked the final F1 test for all 10 teams before the 2009 season begins March 29 in Melbourne, Australia. Brawn, McLaren, Williams and Renault will test at Jerez, Spain early next week.
