Miami's Wade stays hot, torches Celtics

Miami, FL (My Sportsbook) - Dwyane Wade didn't need any theatrics on Wednesday, but his 32-point effort was enough to pace the Heat to a 107-99 victory over the defending champion Boston Celtics at American Airlines Arena.

The league's leading scorer, Wade hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer of double overtime in the team's win over Chicago on Monday, but the Heat were able to win this one in regulation. His three-pointer in the final minute Wednesday sealed Miami's fourth win in five games.

"(Wade) had a little bit of everything," Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said. "He got bumped, and then he tweaked his ankle a little bit, and he was still a little sore from last game. So he had a myriad of things that were troubling him tonight. But that also shows you how mentally tough he is."

Wade added seven assists, while Jamario Moon added 13 points and eight boards, as Miami snapped a six-game losing streak to the Celtics. Jermaine O'Neal had 12 points, and Udonis Haslem, Mario Chalmers and Daequan Cook each had 10 in the win.

"We're a team, and everybody wants to contribute, and we're only as good as we are collectively," Spoelstra said. "Dwyane cannot do this on his own, and everyone understands that. It starts with our energy and our disposition defensively. I was very happy with the fact that they were moving the ball."

Ray Allen led the shorthanded Celtics with 27 points, but only three of those points came in the second half. Leon Powe excelled in the continued absence of Kevin Garnett (knee), scoring 23 points to go with 13 rebounds, as Boston lost for the fourth time in seven games.

"I was happy with the way we played," Celtics head coach Doc Rivers said. "They made a lot of great shots, but defensively, obviously, is where we are sagging. Offensively, I'll take what we did -- scored a lot of buckets, and had a chance to win the game. But when you get down that far, and you are fighting back, it is tough to win games, especially on the road."

Boston also played without Rajon Rondo (ankle) and Glen Davis (ankle). Paul Pierce had 16 points, while Kendrick Perkins provided 13 points in the loss. Eddie House had 12, nine in the fourth, and newcomer Stephon Marbury scored zero points in over 24 minutes of playing time.

A short 6-0 spurt towards the beginning of the fourth put the Heat ahead, 91-76, on a basket by Cook with nine minutes left. The Celtics responded, though, putting together a 16-2 run to climb to within one, as a House three made it 93-92 with just under five minutes left.

A couple O'Neal free throws made it 100-95 with three minutes to go, and Haslem made it a six-point game after hitting a short jumper with 1:06 on the clock.

Wade put the game away on the team's next possession, calmly walking up the floor with the ball and draining a three from the top of the circle with 34.8 seconds left to make it 107-99.

Powe and Allen each had 13 points in the first, and Boston held a slight 32-31 edge after the opening 12 minutes. The Celtics increased their lead to 55-50 at halftime.

Miami began the second half on an 11-0 burst to forge ahead by six, and an 18-8 run to finish the quarter put the Heat in front, 82-73, heading to the fourth.

Game Notes

The season series is tied, 1-1...Wade came into the game averaging 39.5 points and 11.2 assists over his last six games...The Heat shot 50.0 percent, while Boston shot just 45.2 percent...Miami improved to 23-11 at home, while Boston fell to 23-10 on the road...The Heat now have 20 more wins than last season, setting a single-season franchise improvement record.
