Faro, Portugal (My Sportsbook) - The U.S. women's national team fell to Sweden in the 2009 Algarve Cup final on Wednesday, 4-3 in penalty kicks after battling to a 1-1 draw in regulation. Lotta Schelin gave Sweden an early lead but Shannon Boxx equalized for the U.S. in the 90th minute to force the extra time and PKs. The loss ends the U.S. reign of the Portuguese invitational tourney, after the Americans had won it the previous two years. Sweden wins the tourney for the third time while Denmark took third place with a 1-0 victory over Germany.
