Athens, Greece (My Sportsbook) - Euro 2004 player of the tournament Theodoros Zagorakis of Greece is now a free agent after his club team AEK Athens was forced to release him from his contract.

AEK Athens has been struggling financially, forcing the move to occur. They reportedly agreed to pay the 32-year-old midfielder half of the $817,000 they owed him.

"He showed that he genuinely has the club's best interests at heart and is free to take up any of the great offers from teams abroad," AEK said in a statement.

Zagorakis' services will be highly coveted after he just finished leading Greece to an improbable triumph at the European Championship. Top clubs from Spain, England and Germany are all expected to make runs for the tough, defensive minded star.
